Fun & Interesting Things to Do

  1. Alphabet Walk- Take your kids on a walk. Starting with the letter ‘A’, have them list something that begins with that letter. Continue through the alphabet until they can get every letter. It will help them learn the alphabet and help build their vocabulary.

  2. Grocery Store Addition- While at the Grocery store, have them add up the items your buying. At the end of each shopping trip, see if they can come up with the subtotal or close to it. It will help them with addition and also keep them distracted so they wont ask to buy everything in the store.

  3. Little Scientists- We all have old appliances that just don’t work anymore. So why not let our kids discover how they work or are made? Help your kids take out screws or small parts. If your children are old enough see if they can take it apart and put it back together. It will give them an understanding of how complex their favorite electronics are.

  4. Story Time- Take your kids to the local library each week. Let them pick out a few books to read. If its summer time it will keep up on their reading skills. If their young, read to them each night. It will give you a time to spend with your kids. Have them choose books about something their interested in. It will make reading fun, since most of the time they read stuff they don’t want to read about in school.

  5. Field Trip- Make a list of all the educational events to do in your area (ie; museums, historical land marks, zoo, etc) Have them choose one each week to go see. If you have more than one child make sure they take turns choosing. Go to the place of the week and have them learn some facts. It will help them appreciate the different things they learned. It might even help them in school when there learning about the same place your family decided to go.

  6. Little Secretaries- Have them help you organize your office. This will help their organizational skills. Let them file family papers and help clean up the mess. It will teach them to be a little more organized and when there organized it might help them not procrastinate with their own schoolwork.
